Homemade Natural Fly Spray

I’ve been experimenting all summer with various recipes of natural fly spray on our dairy cow. I wanted a natural product using essential oils to help keep those flies at bay during milking time. I used natural products and essential oils that are safe for internal usage (something that was important to me since we’re drinking that raw milk). Here’s my favorite recipe (warning-this smell is really strong):

Homemade Natural Fly Spray

2 cups apple cider vinegar (I use Bragg’s)

2 Tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon of dish liquid soap

10 drops peppermint essential oil

10 drops basil essential oil

10 drops of lemongrass essential oil

Mix ingredients into a spray bottle. Spray liberally on animal. Did I mention that this really stinks?

Note: If you’re looking for a long lasting fly spray, this is not it. However, it works beautifully for shorter periods of time. We love it…especially during milking time.
