Life is Pleasant on the Farm
Living on a farm, for some, means hard work, but the family of Walnut Springs has found a new way to look at it. The new way is—even hard work brings the whole family closer. I will tell you about some ways that the Farm family is brought closer.
First of all, since there are eight family members (soon to be 9) there are a lot of helpers. So when summer comes, so does gardening and outside work. One fun thing that we do is: play games and have competitions while we work in the garden. Games such as, “Who can fill their basket of beans first” or “Who can pick the most corn” etc.
We also develop assembly lines and systems to make the work fun, fast and easy. Similar to the time when we were remodeling the basement and had to move everything back downstairs. To make it easy, we created an assembly line on the steps and passed the boxes down one by one all the way down the steps!
Also, with all of the kids we have on the farm, it is easy come mealtime. You are probably thinking, “What?! Easy?” Well, yes, easy. We can have the table set and the kitchen cleaned in a short amount of time. It is fun because everyone likes to see the kitchen clean!
When barn chores need to be done, we all pitch in to help and get them finished. So at the end of the day, we can sigh and say, “We worked hard. We got a lot done and had fun. Life is pleasant.”
