About Walnut Springs
Hi! Welcome to Walnut Springs Farm, Bowling Green, KY. Here at Walnut Springs, we’re passionate about a lot of things. Our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is primary in our lives. Our family is second. We absolutely love our family (good thing since we have nine wonderful farm children). We desire to pass them a legacy that is lasting. A legacy filled with faith, virtue, determination, hard work, ingenuity, and personal responsibility. Basically, we’re interested in all things related to rearing a next generation that is Christ centered, selfless and productive. We stumbled into farming or homesteading and are always adding more things as we go along. What began with a garden and some chickens has turned into a delightful mix of animals, children, food, and absolutely great times (on most days) as we learn how to live and grow in so many ways. So, come down to our little piece of paradise and see what we’ve got "growing" on! You never know what you’ll find!
Who We Are
We’re Eric and Ellen Aldridge. In 2005 we bought the land that we now call home, and built a house (with an enormous amount of help from our family), with plans to fill it with children. Since then our family has grown from four to eleven members. And we couldn’t be happier about it! We love children. We love country living. We love dirt. We love living in Kentucky!
Why This Blog
We decided to start this blog because we have benefitted greatly from blogs on a variety of topics and thought we may offer others the same benefit. Farming and homesteading tips are fun to discuss, but the passion that is near and dear to our hearts is our family. So you’ll see a lot about family life, child rearing and home living as well.
Why We Farm
Wondering why we farm? Well it all started when Ellen read aloud the Little House on the Prairie books and the accompanying series by Laura Ingalls Wilder’s daughter Rose Wilder. We started with butter making in a mason jar, then added chickens and a pony. Now, you never know what we’re going to add to our mix. So to answer the question, we farm because we find it fun (yes, very hard work can be fun)! Something about the homestead lifestyle of natural living, skills from times past, and a more self sufficient way appeals to us. Get ready to slide on your mud boots and follow us as we grow and learn.
